Philip was one of the original members of
Young Talent Time when it debuted in
April 1971. He chalked up 3 years on the show before it was time for him to
leave.
Philip is a familiar face to most Australians.
His powerful voice and energetic
dancing skills have been heard and seen on stage and screen for well over
two decades.
Philip has won international recognition for his
leading roles in a string of hit shows such as 42nd Street,
Street Scene, Showboat, Oklahoma, South Pacific, HMS Pinafore,
Buddy and Crazy For You.
Born in Australia, Philip has performed in musical theatre for much of his life.
Both his parents worked at The Tivoli in Melbourne and Philip was singing
and dancing himself from an early age. As a child he appeared in Oliver!,
Mame and The Doll’s House and on television in Brian and The Juniors,
The Mike Preston Show, The Graham Kennedy Show and The Jimmy Hannan Show.
After finishing his stint on Young Talent Time,
Philip returned to the stage, appearing in More Canterbury Tales
and scoring the lead role of Tony in West Side Story.
Since 1984 Philip has lived and worked in England and since then has played the
lead role of Billy Lawlor in 42nd Street at the Theatre Royal,
Dick McGann in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene both in Glasgow and at the London Coliseum,
the role of Frank Schultz in Showboat at the London Palladium,
Curly in Oklahoma and Ritchie Valens in Buddy. He performed his
show-stopping number from Street Scene "Moon Faced Starry Eyed"
at the 1989 Olivier Awards.
He has also found time to regularly return to Australia to star in
shows including the role of Ralph Rackstraw in HMS Pinafore with Paul Eddington,
Pip in the musical of Charles Dickens’ classic novel Great Expectations,
Lieutenant Cable in South Pacific and, most recently, Bobby Childs in Crazy For
You.
Philip’s other stage credits include
Nightclub Confidential,
La Belle Helene, Regina, Dames at Sea, Don’t Dress for Dinner,
Ten Little Indians,
The Mummy’s Tomb and Canterbury Tales,
as well as television appearances in The Royal Variety Show,
The Children’s Royal Variety Show, Royal Command performances and the
British academy awards.

Other work includes Royal Variety,
Children’s Royal Variety, Royal Command Performances and BAFTA Awards for BBC Television,
recording of Street Scene on CD with Decca Records and Chaucers 600th Anniversary at
Westminster Abbey with Fenella Fielding.
